Vampire Academy

Over the past few weeks I have been reading a novel called, 'Vampire Academy'. It is the first book of a series of six. The book is about a vampire princess called Lissa and her best friend, Rose who is also her guardian. Lissa needs a guardian because she needs to be protected by the most dangerous race of vampires called 'Strigoi', these vampires almost never die and they feed off blood from moroi vampires like Lissa.

Lissa and Rose ran away from the Vladimir Academy two years ago, but they are caught and dragged back. They then have to continue with their studies, Lissa Moroi social science and Rose guardian training. They have to complete their senior year with the rest of their classmates so they can be reunited again. But events make it hard.. threats of the Striogi breaking into the school and relationships getting in the way.

Olympic Opinions (:

The olympics are a world wide event which are held every four years. Athletes from countries all around the world come to one city in the world and compete in their prefered sport to try and gain medals for their countries. There are over 25 sports in the olympics and they range all the way from swimming and diving, to equestrian and syncrhonised swimming. But cheerleading is not one.

I think cheerleading should be included in the olympic games because it involves a high amount of physical activity such as: tumbling, jumping, tossing people in the air and dancing. It also involves alot of teamwork. Every team or athlete that goes to the olympics spends hours training to get ready to compete, cheerleading is exactly the same.. you train hard so you can go out and compete well. Some people think that cheerleading can't be considered an olympic sport because not many countries know about it yet, and America are far more developed in the sport than any other country.. but if not many other countries know about it then how is there such thing as the 'Cheerleading Worlds'?
The cheerleading worlds are held every April in a different state of America each year countries from all around the world enter multiple cheerleading teams from their country to compete.

Olympic Moments

The best moment in olympic history was when Kerri Strug helped the American Womens Artistic Gymnastics team win gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. I chose Kerri Strug because the only way that the USA team was going to win the Artistic Gymnastics Team event was if Kerri got a score of at least 9.493 on vault. After Kerri completed her first vault she fell and hurt her ankle badly, she still completed her 2nd vault but instead of landing on two feet she landed on one and got a score of, 9.712.

Collaborative Story

The disinfectant smell of the hospital room fills my nostrils, the pillow that I must have been lying on for a while has moulded to the shape of my grey haired head and soft fragile hands embrace my right hand. Familiar voices murmur around me some are sobbing others comforting. The doors open and an unfamilar voice calls for someone in the room. They are having a conversation about whether they can take me home. I doze off.

The cold breeze strikes my face as I am wheeled outside and into an ambulance, the soft fragile hand still grips onto mine. Different shadows of colours flicker around me as the engine revs and I am taken home. The doors open, and I am wheeled out of the ambulance and into the familiar surroundings of my home. I am lifted off the ambulance stretcher and into my own bed, my whole body relaxes as I am layed there.

A few days pass and my family members never stop telling me how much they love me and that they don't want me to leave. At first I wonder where I'm going and then I realise that these will be my last few days. I don't want to go yet, Vivienne embraces me into a tight hug and kisses me on the cheek I can feel the wetness of her tears against my skin. She doesn't leave my side until the end.

3 Day Episode

My 3 day episode would be called "Watch Your Favourite tv Show". At the beggining of the first day there would be a vote out of three tv shows as to which is your favourite, and then we would watch the first season of that tv show over the three days, and on the last day the students would write a summary on the tv show. There would be no cost and no trips would be included. The independent learning qualities would include thinking and joy.

Short Story: What Makes You Beautiful

Every turn we make feels like we are getting closer and closer to the edge of the now black, wet tarseal road. "Slow down!" I shriek at Adam. He doesn't listen. As the car drifts and breaks through the metal road barrier; time seems to slow down. The car violently tumbles down the hill and darkness surrounds me.

The sirens in the distance are getting louder and louder, Adam is groaning and I can sense him moving beside me. This is my last memory before I wake up in this very uncomfortable hospital bed. My vision is blurred and I feel so weak. There is a sharp pain cutting across my face all the way from the corner of my left eye over the bottom half of my nose and through the right corner of my mouth. I lift my right hand up to feel what is causing the sharp pain, but when my finger tips reach my face I find that my whole head is wrapped in multiple bandages and only my right eye and the top right corner of my head is left uncovered. I can hear nurses having convisations outside the room. I close my eyes to relax and try and take my mind off the pain I am feeling throughout my fragile body, but I am interrupted by the opening of the door. A young woman walks in, she has dead straight blonde hair, her fringe is french plaited back into her ponytail and she is wearing a dark blue nurses uniform.
"Nice to see you're awake," she says as she walks through the door. She stands over me and shines a torch into my right eye.
"Are you feeling any pain or discomfort?" she asks me.
"Everywhere", I reply. She pouts and says "I'll be back to give you something for the pain."
She returns and adminsters a syringe full of clear fluid into my IV. I feel it tingle as it goes into my vein. She is followed in by a tall man wearing Harry Potter style glasses and a white surgeons jacket.
"Hello, my name is Dr Kyle and I am your surgeon."
"Its nice to meet you." I choke out. He continues... "Miss Foster, you were involved in a very serious car accident three weeks ago, you suffered from some very serious head and facial injuries, a broken nose, shattered ribs, chipped hip bone and your left foot was crushed when the car you were in impacted with a very large tree trunk. "

The first words that come out of my mouth are... "Where is Adam? Is he alright?" The doctor and nurse give me a confused look and reply, "Who?"
"My boyfriend, Adam, he was driving the car..." The doctor kneels at the side of my bed and says, "You were the only person the fireman found in the car, they found it unusual that there was only one person in the car and she was sitting in the passengers side, they assumed that the driver got out safely."
"What!?" I say in a confused tone. "So where is he?"
The nurse starts to speak, " We haven't heard anything about Adam, but for the past few weeks your parents have been taking turns sleeping here just to make sure they are here when you wake up, or if anything happend to you. They just went down to get breakfast, but we will ask them about Adam when they get back."
"Thankyou." I reply as I yawn and start to feel a little dozey. Before I know it I am sleeping again.

The aroma of rubber gloves and disinfectant mixed with black coffee fills my nose as I start to wake up. Familiar voices are wispering around me, mum and dad are talking about a call they recieved very recently. My eyes slowly open as I try and get used to the sunlight beaming through the window.
"Darling!" my mum says when she realises I'm awake, she rushes to my bedside to make sure I feel alright. Dad comes and kisses me on the forehead as he says, "Its been a while since we have seen you, how do you feel?"
"Alright" I reply. There is a moment of silence as my parents get a chair each and sit closer to my bedside.

My mum starts. "Now Lucy,we heard you were asking the nurses about Adam. We got a call from the police station this morning, he was found sleeping in his friends garage." She pauses with a concerned look on her face. Dad takes over.
"Adam has been arrested for dangerous driving causing injury and leaving the scene of the accident and not seeking help for you." I feel tears start to well up in my eyes. Dad continues....."The police have allowed him to come and see you later this afternoon." I sit in silence for a while trying to process what my parents have just told me, when my thoughts are interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Come in" my parents say in unison. The door opens with a creak and a very familar voice follows saying, "Hello." My eye opens, as I realise who it is and my hand rummages for the remote that makes the bed sit up.
"I'll get it", says the voice as he picks up the remote and pushes the button. My body slowly starts to sit up with the bed. I look in the direction the voice is coming from and to my surprise I see a tall boy with scruffy brunette hair and green eyes.

"Chase!" I say bright eyed, as he places a vase full of freash flowers on the window ledge.
"I came as soon as I could, I was in Christchurch with my nana." he says.
"Chase, it's alright. I was asleep for 3 weeks so you didn't miss much, I reply reassuringly. We spend the next half hour talking and telling each other jokes. We are interrupted by another knock on the door... the nurse walks in and tells me that Adam is here. I freeze for a few moments, my parents and Chase walk outside the room to give Adam and I some time alone. The door shuts behind them.
It feels like forever waiting for Adam to walk into the room. The door opens slowly and a very strong looking policeman walks in, followed by a very disappointed looking Adam.

"Hi",I say nervously.
"Hi", he says staring at the floor. An awkward silence fills the room. He starts to talk again.
"Lucy, I am really sorry that this happend, and I hope the scar on your face doesn't look too bad,but... I don't think we can be together."
"What..." my voice cracks as I try and speak.
"GET OUT!" I yell, trying my hardest not to break down into tears. He walks out of the room like he didn't ever care. The door slams behind him.

I burst into tears, I don't even realise Chase has come in until he comes and sits on the bed with me trying to tell me everything will be fine.
" But who is going to like someone who has a big scar across her face?"I sob.
"Lucy, looks aren't everything. You are one of the nicest people I know, you would never hurt anyone! When someone is sad... even if you don't know them very well you wouldn't stop trying to make them happy, until you knew for sure that they are happy."
"I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've liked you ever since the first day I met you.A scar down your face won't change who you are....your personality is what makes you beautiful." He leans over and gently plants a kiss on my bandaged forehead and whispers "You're beautiful just the way you are."

Term 1 Reflection (sorry its a bit late I didnt see the post until I got back from Hawaii.)

My first term as a year 10 at Alfriston College has been interesting and fun. I enjoyed most of my classes this term because I learnt alot and got good marks on my assesments, I also found out I have  friends in every class which is probably one of the reasons I have enjoyed class so much. The assesment I am most proud of is one of my maths ones because I got acheived with merit and gained a few credits towards my NCEA. I have found science the most challenging subject this term because everything we are learning is new and I am finding it hard to understand some things. Next term I need to focus on english and science more because those are the subjects I struggle most in. Overall this term has been very successful and fun for me.

Martin Luther King Jr (Research someone who has fought for peace or equality)

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character."

These were the words spoken by Martin Luther King Jr on the 28th August 1963 that would change the world for the better.

Martin Luther King Jr was an African American who fought for equal rights for all Americans in the late 50's and 60's. He believed that people shouldn't be judged by the colour of their skin but by their character, he led non-violent protests and spoke out against segregation and discrimination on the basis of race and beliefs. He gained the support of thousands of people worldwide, both black and white. In 1964 he became the youngest person to recieve the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and discrimination.

While trying to share what he believed in he risked his life, his house was bombed, he had numerous death threats and he was arrested many times before finally, he was assasinated outside his motel room in Memphis on April 4th 1968 by James Earl Ray.

Imagine if Martin Luther King Jr, hadn't spoken out and nothing changed. Because of him, America has its first African American President, Barack Obama. I think it is fair to say that Martin would have been proud.

Novel Review (:

I'm currently reading a book called, "Forgotten" by Cat Patrick. This book was recomended to me by most my good friends who have read it, they all said it was addictive, intriguing and leaves you in suspense until you read the next chapter.

It is about a sixteen year old girl called London Lane. She lives with her mum, has a best friend called Jamie and has no idea who her dad is. London seems like your average girl but every morning at 4:33am her memory is erased. She can see flashes of her future, but her past is blank. In order to remember the important events from the day before, she writes notes before she goes to bed to build a portfolio of her life. When she meets a new boy called Luke, she sees him as an amazing guy every girl could ever wish for, but she can't see him in her future. Everyday London has to meet him as if it's for the first time. Luke should be a part of her future, but she never sees him in it. This leads you to believe he won't be.

Even though I have not finished reading this book, I am really enjoying it. I like the way the author makes London, piece her life together like a puzzle. It makes the reader want to read more, never quiet knowing for sure what's going to happen next. So far I give this book a 10/10 because its not your usual soppy teen love story. I would recomened this book for teenage girls who enjoy intense stories which leave you in suspense with a hint of romance.

Following Instructions (:

Butter Cake (:

-150 g softend butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
-3/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups plain flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 cup milk

Cream butter, vanilla and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour and baking powder together. Fold into creamed mixture. Add sufficient milk to give a soft dropping consistency. Spoon mixture into a greased and lined deep 20cm round cake tin. Bake at 108 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Leave in tin for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.

I chose these instructions because they were in the first recipe book I found. I read them through and they were very easy to understand.

                                                               The Finished Product (:

Overall, I found this recipe really easy to understand, it was quick aswell. The cake turned out better than I thought it would, thanks to Maria and I, amazing decorating skills.

Creative Writing (:

Lucy and I walk in through the school gates. We see girls squealing and running into each others arms and guys walking up to each other and doing that special handshake thing that every guy seems to know... it's the first day of school for the year and I have to say that im not as excited as everyone else seems to be, to be back at this boaring place.
"Oh I forgot to mention my name, it's Ellie by the way. I'm 16, I go to Blue Ridge High School and I have a best friend called Lucy, we have known eachother scince year 3 when I accidently spilt blue paint all over her, when the teacher asked me to get it down from the top cupboard in the art room, my mum had to pay for a new uniform and lets say... a new hairstyle, dont ask me why but we have stuck to each other and have been best friends ever scince."
So as Lucy and I continue walking through the school we see more squealing and more handshakes. I suddenly stop and notice a boy about our age sitting on a seat alone playing on his phone, away from everyone else, he is wearing cream coloured skinny jeans, black vans and a black hoddie. I decide to walk over to him to cheek if he is alright, Lucy beside me looking at me with a confused look on her face.
I say, "Hey are you alright? you look a bit lonley." He turns around, smiles and replys "Yeah im fine." "Whats your name?" I ask, "Kevin, whats yours?" "Ellie and this is my friend Lucy." I reply "Nice to meet you" he says with that same smile on his face. "Have I met you before? You look familiar." I say. "Ah no I dont think you have? I only moved to this part of the country before summer started."
The bell rings and we all make our way to our first class. I couldnt concentrate through maths, all I could think about was Kevin and how familiar his face looked, I was thinking about all the people I had met friends of friends cousins of cousins and I couldnt make out where I had seen him before. The rest of the day went pretty fast, and before I knew it, it was time to go home. Mum picked me up in the school carpark and I went straight home to do my homework. What kind of teacher gives out homework on the first day, I thought to myself.
I turn on my laptop to start my homework, but decide I should probably check my twitter. I sign in and there are all these tweets about a member from my favourite band 'Status Single' going missing. My mind suddenly stops and realises where I knew Kevin from. He wasn't Kevin at all, he was Kyle from Status Single. I try as hard as I can to complete my homework, but I am still trying to wrap my head around how I met this world famous band member at school today and why he would have even left Status Single in the first place.
I had trouble sleeping last night all I could think about was Kyle, I decided I was going to confront him at school today about the Status Single Situation and convince him to go back.
"hey" I say "hey" he replys "I knew I recognised you from somewhere?" "What do you meen?" "I'm one of your biggest fans, how could I not know who you are?" "Oh, I guess you wanting to why I did it?" "Well yeah ! I think alot of people want to know.." "Well, I don't really think Im as good as the other boys at singing and I am definitly not as good looking as them.." "KYLE ! you are amazing.. let me show you how much your fans love you."
I take out my phone and show Kyle all of his mentions on twitter, they say thinks like: "@kyle I love you, you are amazing, will you marry me?" "@kyle you have the voice of an angle" "@kyle I wish I was as cute as you."
"See Kyle you are amazing, your fans love you dont give up on yourself like this, your band mates and fans need you." He scrolls through a few more of his mentions and realises he shouldnt give up on his fans. He looks at me smiles and says, "Thankyou Ellie for helping me realise, where I should be."

My Holiday ! (:

My holiday was pretty good. I spent Christmas with my family, like always and I went away a few times. On boxing day my family and I went on our annual camping holiday to Ohope Beach where we go every year. My sister and I were really looking forward to getting away from the cold rain for two weeks... but it seemed that everywhere we went we couldn't get away from it. So we spent most of our holiday all packed inside our caravan. Although it was raining it didn't stop us from getting out of our nice warm beds, to go huddle under a gazebo with 20 other people and have a very crazy, New Years party.
Luckily after a couple of days stuck inside our caravan, the rain started to clear up. Ohope was finally what my sister and I remember it as: hot sun, very slight cool breeze, sparkling clear BLUE sea water that felt so refreshing on your face when you dive through a wave after hours of tanning on the beach. Even with all this relaxing I managed to finish my book.

The 10 days my family and I spent at Ohope went pretty quick, once the rain cleared up we headed back up to Auckland and I spent the rest of the holidays hanging out with friends, swimming in my pool and cheerleading training. I enjoyed my holiday and hanging out with my family and friends, even though it rained for most of it, we still found fun things to do.

Maria, Louise and I reading on the beach.

My sister, ME ! and cousins waiting for the rain to stop.
